Rwanda’s bats have had a terrible reputation for supposedly spreading Ebola and for their use in witchcraft. In fact these massive “flying squirrels” are keeping malarial mosquitoes and crop eating pests at bay.

Local scientists are trying to spread the word to local villages while using the latest satellite technology to monitor the bats migrations. We’ll visit the bats’ cave sanctuaries and an isolated island breeding ground.
