THE PRICE OF POWER
In 3 years Kenya hopes to connect over 90% of its citizens to its electricity grid.
But there is a price to pay for this cheap renewable energy.
Unfortunately most geothermal resources are in environmentally sensitive and scenic areas.
Geothermal energy, which is a clean low carbon energy resource, currently provides half Kenya’s energy and its importance will only keep growing. In Kenya the Olkaria and Longonot fields are in National Parks, where conservationists say geothermal development has already driven away colonies of critically endangered birds.
Geothermal power can also displace people. The film explores the price of power, even for an energy resource that’s touted as clean and carbon free.
